The Five Rules of Leather Wallet Care in Pakistan
1. Condition Every Three to Four Months
Leather conditioning replenishes the natural oils that dry out from heat and low humidity. Without it, leather becomes stiff, cracks at fold lines, and loses its patina. In Pakistan condition every three to four months minimum — every two to three months in Lahore during summer. Use Kiwi leather conditioner available at any shoe repair shop. Apply with a soft cloth, let absorb twenty minutes, buff off excess. Do not use petroleum jelly, olive oil, or coconut oil.
2. Protect from Sweat in Summer
Sweat contains salt and acids that break down leather fibres permanently. Switch to front pocket carry in summer. If you notice white residue or tide marks, wipe with a barely damp cloth immediately and let dry in shade. Never dry leather in direct sunlight or with a hairdryer.
3. Handle Monsoon Moisture Carefully
Getting wet is not a disaster for full-grain leather if handled correctly. Blot dry immediately, stuff with paper towels to hold shape, air dry at room temperature away from direct heat, then condition once fully dry. Mould forms on leather left wet more than 24 hours in Karachi's humidity — treat with white vinegar wipe, dry, then condition.
4. Store It Properly
Store in a cool, dry, dark place in the dust bag that came with your Karar wallet or wrapped in cotton cloth. Not in a plastic bag — plastic traps moisture. Apply conditioner before storing for more than a month.
5. Let the Patina Develop
